The Trailer of Dune will Leave You Flabbergasted

Warner Bros. has unveiled explosive footage from Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction thriller starring Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, and a lot of spell-binding scenes.

The trailer offers a look into magnificent production design, out of this world action, fabulous costumes of the cast, along with everything else that Villeneuve has used to make his world of Dune, which is augmented by the music given by master composer Hans Zimmer.

It’s a dream come true for Villeneuve as he is now finally able to show what has been his teenage dream. He always had this day-dream of adapting Frank Herbert’s novel since the time he was a teenager, and now cinema giant Warner Bros. along with Legendary, have given him a pedestal to mount his vision of utmost cinematic grandeur.

The footage shown in the trailer, along with its music that adds a sense of emotional feel to it, can put any science fiction film to shame.

Academy Award-nominated film Call Me by Your Name had given exposure in Hollywood to actor Timothee Chalamet who eventually found his way to star in Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune playing the protagonist Paul Atreides, descendent of a family that takes control over a minacious desert planet called Arrakis. The planet is the realm housing supernatural elements, one of them being a spice, which is a drug that extends human mortality and gives people unfathomable powers. Atreides’s family authority is challenged by the adversary Harkonnen empire and the planet’s indigenous people known as the Fremen.

The ensemble cast includes names that are either a rising star or an established brand of virtuous talent. In particular, Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya will occupy center stage surrounded by a stellar supporting cast of Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, and Charlotte Rampling.

Dune is the latest name that has been added to the list of science fiction films made by Denis Villeneuve, who looks to have launched an incursion into the genre. His films “Arrival” and “Blade Runner 2049” have already rocked the stage of Award ceremonies and earned admiration from fans and critics alike in preceding years. Blade Runner 2049, the sequel of the cult classic 1982 film Blade Runner, won Academy Awards for Best visual effects and Best Cinematography. 2016 Arrival earned Villeneuve his second Academy Award nomination and first in the Best Picture category. The 2011 film Incendies was his first-ever nomination at Oscars.

“Dune” and “Blade Runner 2049” could be held in juxtaposition in terms of ingenious lighting and splendid cinematography. It is expected that both films could very well make their way to the best sci-fi films of the 21st century. Blade Runner 2049 was not merely a mainstream tentpole, but an artistic motion picture created out of Roger Deakins’ imagination- defying and neon-infused use of polychromatic color palette.

In Dune, Villeneuve has worked with “Lion” Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Greig Fraser. It looks the duo has given a lot of time in the project as “Dune” is expected to be a visceral exaltation akin to the pedigrees achieved by 2018 DC tentpole Aquaman which was in itself a stupendous cinematographic effort.

It is an undisputed fact and imperative to be kept in mind while reviewing the film in the future that Dune is a very difficult venture if not an impossible venture. Some people from the industry, including Kyle MacLachlan, consider the story to be more suited to the TV series than to a big screen.

There have been one or two attempts to make a film out of Frank Herbert’s novel, which has either failed or has been underwhelming. David Lynch’s 1984 film was a forgetful experience not only for the audience but for everyone who was involved in the project. David Lynch rejected the film, refusing to even associate his name with the project showcasing frustration over the creative differences and lack of satisfaction with the final product. The film was a disaster for some as they couldn’t see any stamp of approval from David Lynch in anything that they saw in the film. And to be fair with Lynch, in the end, he really didn’t really have any creative power over the project, and that is part of the reason he refused to take credit for it.

To make a film like Dune a successful endeavor, not everyone can be allowed to make a decision, and sadly, that didn’t happen with Dune 1984.

However, the film did leave a mark on its star Kyle MacLachlan who, in a recent interview with IndieWire, firmly stated he still believes that Lynch’s film was not as bad as it had been talked about over the years.

As far as Denis Villeneuve is concerned, he did state in an interview that he has been a “David Lynch fan,” but he was left a bit “unsatisfied” with Dune’s old iteration. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project and said there is still a chance to make a film about Frank Herbert’s book with a “different sensibility.”

In case you have forgotten, Alejandro Jodorowsky had made an unsuccessful attempt to make Dune in the mid-1970s. The film was stalled due to financial hindrance.

And although Denis Villeneuve has worked really hard on the project, he should keep his fingers crossed because fans of Dune are not easy to satisfy.

Dune is an upcoming DC film with a release date of December the 18th, around the time of Christmas. While you await the film, you may watch the trailer again on YouTube.

Kung FU Mulan Will Focus More on Individuality Unlike the Recent Live-in Action Adaptation

Directed and Produced by Chinese filmmakers, Kung Fu Mulan is an animated film that was recently released in China. It explores the Ballad of Mulan with a new perspective. The latest movie is made with a focus on traditional values to make it more appealing to the Chinese audience. The $200 million live-in action remake that recently failed to entertain and crashed in Chinese Box Office is proof that the western interpretation of the Chinese culture, traditions and values has been unsuccessful in resonating with the audience. Kung Fu Mulan is aimed to fix that and make a great film that the mainland audience can enjoy.
